The Fetish Facts - Everything You Need To Know About Our Favourite F Word

Let's talk about fetishes, baby. It’s a touchy subject and one a lot of us don’t talk about enough. Fetishes are widely misunderstood and seriously underrated. So hey, let’s break down some of the mystification and see if we can’t get you to try something new!

First off, let’s get one thing super clear, a fetish isn’t just what you're into in the bedroom. Nope, they’re actually much more than that. Fetishism is actually a pretty common phenomenon. According to one study, roughly 20% of men and 7% of women have some sort of fetishistic behaviour. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with a fetish so let’s get that clear too!

Now that we’re done with the housekeeping, let’s jump into some weird, wacky and wonderful facts about fetishes!

1. A fetish is NOT a kink

For some reason, these two seem to be used interchangeably but that couldn’t be further from the truth! A kink is something that adds to the experience of sex, you know like some light spanking or fingerplay BUT it turns into a fetish when the spanking is required for sex, orgasm and pleasure to occur. Kinks enhance the fun, but fetishes start it!

2. There are two types of fetishes - inanimate and animate

Fetishes come in all shapes and sizes, but normally they fall within one of the two categories. An inanimate fetish is a fixation on objects - panties, rubber, fur, stockings (to name a few); animate fetishes are focused on body parts and living things like feet, necks, pubic hair and breasts (or whatever tickles your fancy). Alongside these, fetishes can also come in the form of behaviours like domination and submission, sadism, masochism etc.

3. Foot fetishes are the most common in the world

Yep. You read that right. Feet are at the top of the game in the fetish world - especially if you’re a heterosexual man. A lot of the time, people will even want to treat their partner’s feet like a holy object and want to worship them through kissing, caressing and massaging. But, like all fetishes, foot fetishes exist on a spectrum so humiliation can play a role in the turn on too. Either way, it’s the most popular fetish in the world!

4. It’s not all about pain

People often connect fetishes with pain, but that’s totally not the case! Fetishes come in all shapes, sizes and styles - no two are the same and the community is uber diverse. Pain might be part of the game for some, but certainly not for all!

Feeling like you know a little more now? Ready to open your mind to something a bit new? Fetishes are unique and awesome little things that we tend to dismiss if we don’t know much about them. But we say, keep your fetish alive and well!
